planting

Question
I live in northwest PA. I want to plant cucumber, beans ,cherry tomatoes & sugar baby watermelon, when can I start? I was told that cow is manure is better then horse manure true or false

Answer
Dear Andy,
Check the growing season in your area.  I'm thinking it's still a bit early to plant anything outdoors in your part of the country.  Usually the seeds you mentioned are planted after any danger of frost and tomatoes are set out as plants about a month later.  As far as manure.  Both are effective, but horse manure is easier to work with.  I use either and have good vegetables.  Actually, my favorite is chicken "litter" and sheep or goat manure.
Hope this helps.  I wish you much gardening success.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
