squash problem

Question
My yellow summer squash plant leaves are all whitish/gray.  Should I worry?  This happened last yr. to my zuch. and I never got a single squash.   THanks!

Answer
Kris.
You've got powdery mildew, the scourge of curcubits everywhere. It sounds like it is probably too far gone to save, but you can try spraying with a mixture of 1T baking soda/1 gal of water. Milk is also supposed to work, but I'm not sure of the dilution. If the plant doesn't get worse in a week, keep spraying weekly. Otherwise, throw it out.
