fig tree growth

Question
I recently found a wild tennessee mountain fig tree in the woods(3 trees actually). I brought one home in the fall and it was doing well. once winter was over I check the figs back in the woods and their leaves had opened up already and had grown over eight inches in height. With mine at home the leaves still haven't popped out and no new growth has occurred but I broke a small piece off and the inside is still good and green.I'm not sure how to get it growing again and why the leaves haven't come out yet.

Answer
Hi Terrell, when you disrupt a trees root system, it is an automatic setback on its timetable; the trees in the woods are on schedule, yours is behind because of the transplant; you did the right thing checking the Cambium layer, it will tell you if its still viable. Just keep it irrigated and it will eventually break out for you. Nick
