bonsai care?

Question
I got a plant that I was told wa a bonsai plant and it is in rocks. It was grouped togetther as 8 stems and I saw on a tv show that they were seperateed and so I did so. I need to know just how do I care for this beautiful plant. I can't and don't want it to die on me. My friend that gave it to me said just water it and it cares for itself. To me that is not enough info for the care it may need. HELP

Answer
Trudy,

Are you sure it's a bonsai. Bonsai can be any type of tree (maple, birch, juniper, pine) that is kept small by pruning and the pot size. They are not usually grown in rocks. They are grown in potting mixtures that resembles soil.

I am not sure what you mean by 8 stems, but I don't understand why you would want to separate them. Could it be bamboo?

Try reading and exploring on websites like http://www.Learning2Bonsai.com There you will find articles and care instructions for virtually all types on bonsai trees. You can also upload pictures and ask other bonsai enthusiast what specie of plant you have. That is very important.
