Organic Lawn Care

Before we started cultivating them, grasses lived in areas where they could receive their own, natural fertilization from nature. Decaying plants and animals create the natural humus that feeds plants and grasses in the wild. Now that we grow grass on our lawns, we have to provide that fertilizer which Mother Nature cannot provide.

Chemical fertilizers have long been used to help keep lawns green and healthy, but come with some side effects. A chemical fertilizer can burn lawns if applied incorrectly. You'll also want to think twice about walking barefoot on a lawn that's been treated with chemicals. Finally, chemical fertilizers can have devastating effects on the environment in general.

Organic fertilizers are becoming more and more popular. Not only are they safer, but also they're much closer to the natural fertilizer that grasses receive from nature. There are several different kinds of organic fertilizers available in today's market that can rival or even exceed the power of chemical fertilizers

Types of Organic Fertilizers

Fish fertilizers use the nutritious oils from fish to feed your lawn. Fish oils are high in nitrogen and other vitamins and minerals that keep grasses strong and healthy. Since fish oil comes from a natural source, it decomposes naturally. Seaweed fertilizer is also a popular organic fertilizer. This fertilizer is created from freshly harvested seaweed that contains growth hormones that keep your lawn strong and resilient. Some mixtures of fish and seaweed fertilizers are also available to give you the best of both worlds.
