brown spots on leaves

Question
A beautiful and prolific bloomer, my brassia is starting to develop brown spots on some leaves. The spots appear to be spreading.  Help.

Answer
This is a fairly common problem with Brassia.  It is either sunburn or a fungus.  If sunburn, you need to reduce any amount of direct sun exposure. I suspect, however, that it is a fungus.  I recommend spraying the plant with a copper base fungicide once per week (do this outside).  One such product is called Kocide but there may be newer copper based products on the market-- check with your garden center. Once the spotting develops, the fungicide will not remove the spotting already there.  You will need to remove those leaves or sections of leaves that have the spotting.  The purpose of the fungicide is to prvent further spotting, especially on any new growth.
