Leaves turned white on Phaia

Question
Hi Wayne I recently purchased a moth orchid for my sister. The ma said to keep it from opening to soon to keep it cold. I put it out in my flower shed next to the window. Today I noticed that leaves have turned white. Looks like someone spilled or sprayed paint on it. Did it get too much sun? and what can i do to help it. I bought it for my sisters 50th birthday! Please help..thanks so much

Answer
Gail, I think your suggested reason for the leaf change is on target.  It sounds like bleaching from excessive bright light. Unfortunately, I know of no way to reverse the bleaching.  Move it to a much lower light environment.  Remove the worst leaves-- hopefully you have some that weren't damaged too much.  You may want to consider purchasing another plant for your sister's 50th and nurse along the one you have, which, with proper care, may recover over the course of several months through the growth of new leaves.
