Polystichum makinoi

Makinoi's holly fern (Polystichum makinoi) pol-ISS-tih-kum MAK-in-oy Genus:  Polystichum This evergreen terrestial fern has a somewhat formal look due to its satiny olive-green fronds and neat, arching habit. Care:  Fertile, humusy, well-drained soil in partial to full shade. Remove dead fronds as needed before new ones unfurl. Propagation:  Divide in spring. Sow spores at 59° to 61°F when ripe. Detach fronds with bulbils in fall. Problems:  Infrequent.
