unknown growth

Question
I live in the DFW area and recently we had much rain.  A foamy white/pinkish growth has emerged in several areas of my flower beds (no grass areas).  It has a mushroom like consistency with black and white colors inside.  Any idea what it is?

Answer
Hi Dan, they're called slime molds.  Quite common on decomposing mulch, rotting stumps, etc.  Really cool looking aren't they.  They grow very rapidly but really aren't doing any damage.  Blast them apart with the water hose each time you see them.  Jim
