Memphis weeds

Question
I live in Southaven and have a fair lawn of bermuda; however crabgrass and other broadleaf weeds typical to Memphis area thrive in my yard. Other than MSMA what will kill them and how do I feed the bermuda? Extra mowing is not an issue.

Answer
Hi Phil, Bonide has a new product (Weed Beater Plus - Crabgrass and Broadleaf Weed Killer) that will control all of your problems. It combines a broadleaf weed killer with a new crabgrass killer, Quinclorac.  As with any broadleaf weed killer, do not use when the day temperatures exceed 90 degrees.  MSMA is still available and could be used on crabgrass above 90.
Bermuda should be fed with small, micro-doses of fertilizer and mowed every 4 days is possible to remove no more than 1/3 of the leaf blade.  If you are mowing once a week, then a slow release fertilizer is even more important.  Avoid agricultural grade fertilizers such as 13-13-13, 6-12-12 or ammonium nitrate with quick release nitrogen.  Use a good "turf builder" type product.  Jim
