Propagation of Pear Fruit Tree

Hi Tom,
I would like to know how to propagate a piece off of my friend's wonderful pear tree. It has great pears. I am a Master Gardener but have not found any info. on this topic. Is there an easy way? Thanks so much, Barb

Hi Barb,
Thanx for your question. I am a master gardener too although I do not participate in the program anymore since I started my own farm. Your local extension service should have information on grafting fruit trees. That's the way fruit trees are propagated (onto a hardy root stock). Fruit trees are extremely difficult to root from cuttings. Here is a link to the University of Minnesota Extension Service regarding grafting. I hope it helps.
