Dracaena (Spikes Plant)

Question
I have had my Spikes for about three years and this year it took off and was beautiful (50 in"). I brought it in for the winter and now I'm sure it has a fungus on it/in it's trunk. It's soft to the touch and there's mushrooms in the pot. HELP! What can I do?

Answer
Hi Tamara,
Thanx for your question.  I am sorry could not get back to you sooner.  Allow the soil to dry completely and this will kill the mushrooms and hopefully the fungus will abate too.  The temporary dryness will not harm the dracaena.  When the fungi have abated, you can start watering again, once a week and make sure the soil drains well.  Soggy soil makes a nice home for fungi.  I hope this helps.
Tom
