QUESTION: We live in Kentucky..

Answer
Hi Donna,
Thanx for the additional information.  If you are pruning the plant, don't prune until early fall.  If you prune in the spring or summer, the plant won't bloom next year.  The bush should not be heavily shaded.  You may need to side dress with some cow manure or use a fertilizer rated for flowering shrubs.  If you're using a high nitrogren fertilizer, this can cause a shrub to go all out with green growth but no blooms.  I hope this helps.
Tom
