bird of paradise;mango, avacado.

Question
Fourteen feet tall BOP top heavy broke off at base. Can you lie this on the ground and it will reroot? What do I do with this cracked 14 ft. BOP? .Can I use the seed pod or flowers already opened up?.... Question 2 What do you do to seed of avacado, mango or any other seeds of this type to form roots for planting.

Answer
Hi Keith,
thanx for your question.  If there are no roots still attached to the BOP, it is not going to reroot.  New growth should probably come out of the roots still in the ground.  The seed pods are only viable if they had a chance to mature and are now ripe.  They should be in a pod about to open up and pretty much dry.

Avocado seed can easily be started by placing four toothpicks at equal distances near the bottom of the flat part of the seed.  The toothpicks allow the seed to be suspended in a glass of clean water which you should change as it becomes cloudy.  The seed should root in about a month or so.

I have never tried to grow a mango seed so here is a link that has some good instructions.

I hope this helps.
