mushrooms and dead rose bushes

Question
I have mushrooms growing everywhere. In the grass, under palms, under rocks. We cut down trees 3 years ago. Would the decaying roots cause this?

I lost rose bushes this year. Not sure why. They were beautiful all winter, (live in Live Oak Co.) then boom! Dead. They had black spot, and some yellow leaves. I went to the local nursery and bought some stuff they said would help. I lost bushes in the back yard and the front. I have a couple that I'm still fighting to save. What causes this?
Thank you very much
Julie

Answer
Hi Julie,
Thanx for your question.  Mushrooms are seeded by spores that travel through the air.  Anytime it has been wet and humid, mushrooms start springing up everywhere.  Decaying roots can be a propagation source for mushrooms and other fungi.

With regard to your roses, some roses are not rated for your part of the country.  They need a dormant period so they can rest for the next season's bloom and growth.  Eventually, roses not rated for the Deep South will wear themselves out.  I am not a rosarian (rose specialist) by any means and we do have a separate forum on Allexperts you might want to access.  Gardenweb.com also has a Rosarian forum which you might find helpful.  Blackspot is common in humid climates.  It's treatment can be difficult at best.

I hope this helps.
Tom
