seven sisters rose bushes

Question
I have recently purchased a new home with 2 of these roses. They are small as they were surrounded with weeds. I have cleaned the area and have the roses on a trellis. Do I need to trim the roses down for the winter or do I leave the vines on the trellis?  I am in zone 4, southern Wisconsin. I am 30 minutes away from the Wi/IL border.

Answer
Seven Sisters is hardy to your zone as you have seen by the fact they are still alive and well. There will be some dieback on your roses but I would not prune them back. Even if you get a very nasty winter, and the rose dies right down to the base, it will still come back and bloom for you in the spring. Take a handful of any rose fertilizer and sprinkle it all around the base of the rose. Water it well this year to encourage new growth to make it larger.
