Plants drying out

Question
1. I had lavender plant and thyme plant in pots. The leaves first dried out, turned dark brown. I cut the stems of the thyme and all that is left is the root will this plant grow. It hasn't shown any sings of regrowth even after i transplanted. My lavender, I have transplanted but not cut off the dried stems. Now its all brown, will this plant regrow? what can i do? N

Answer
Your problem was either related to improper watering or the plants contracted a disease.

We all know that a neglected plant that has not been watered consistently will dry out. But the same is true for plants that have been watered excessively. The roots become staturated and as a result cannot absorb nutrients and oxygen. Eventually the roots die and the plant cannot be saved.

My advice is to take your plants to your local garden center and have them look at the them. My feeling based on your description is that they are too far gone and will not survive. Without seeing them, that's all I can do is make a recommendation from your description. They will know right away by inspecting the plants and make some suggestions based on its condition. But if you've seen no regrowth, you will probably have to replace the plants.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
