Ivy Plants

Question
I have an Ivy plant that is healthy and over grown. Can I cut off parts of it and start new plants? How do I get it to grow roots?

Answer
Hi Nancy,
Thanx for your question.  You can take cuttings about 4inches long and remove the leaves from the bottom two inches and place in a clean glass of water.  When you have significant root growth, you can transplant to separate pots.  You can also take one of the trailing parts of the plant, remove a leaf and scrape the area lightly where you removed the leaf.  Place the wound face down in a small container of soil and cover the runner and place a stone on top to keep it under the soil.  In a couple of weeks, it will develop roots and you can cut it from the mother plant and plant in its own pot.  I hope this helps.
Tom
