Clivia miniata

Question
I have a clivia miniata 10-15 years old bloomed a couple times after last bloom a pod was left on the plant I've read a little about it and think this is a seed I might get a new plant from. Do I cut the pod open? Is it poisonous? or do I just plant that pod (it's orange/red now)
Thanks for any help

Answer
Hi Jackie,
Thanx for your question.  I've provided a link to the Clivia Society which has some good instructions for harvesting the seed.  If I remember correctly, I received some clivia seed in a trade about 12 years ago and they were relatively easy to start.  I had several of them germinate and grow but damping off disease (a type of fungus) got them.  Looks like the Clivia society instructions address the fungal danger.  The directions indicate that harvesting occurs in April to July but that is in the Southern Hemisphere.  Up here, I think that would corresponde to October to January.  I hope this helps.
Tom
