persimmon seeds

Question
how do you identify the type of persimmon from its seed? I have been given some persimmons from two differnt people and the seeds and pulp are different. I would like to plant the one with best pulp but don't know how and would like to identify it. One fruit had large seeds and it had a lot of them in it. the other one either had a large seed or none at all. this pulp had a softer consistency and was not as mushy as the other one.

Answer
Hi Becky,
Thanx for your question.  I don't know that you really can identify the type of persimmon by its seed because the seed can be different depending upon how well the flower was pollinated or if the tree was bisexual and had both female and male flowers on it (most persimmons are either male or female trees).  I am referring you to Jim Hyland our tree expert here on All Experts.  If you will go back to Home/Gardening and click on Trees and then click on Trees again, you'll find Jim.  He has a lot of experience from working with the U.S. Forestry Service.  I hope this helps.
Tom
