Smoke Tree Attracting Bees

Question
Do you know if the Purple Smoke Tree, Cotinus Cog. Atropurpurea, attracts bees?  I would like a tree that blooms in July - August, but I don't like bumble bees buzzing around me when I am trying to mow the lawn.  I know that the Rose of Sharon and the Crepe Myrtle both attract bumble bees, but does the Purple Smoke Tree also attracts bees?

Thanks,
Tim

Answer
Hi Tim,
Thanx for your question.  The Purple Smoke Tree can be fragrant and is said to be very attractive to bees.  I don't know of any flowering summer trees that do not attract bees.  I would check with Jim Hyland on the Trees forum.  Generally, if it blooms, bees like it with a few exceptions.  I hope this helps.
Tom
