mildew on blooms after a short time

Question
I want to know how to stop mold/mildew on the blooms of my AFs. They are beautiful at first, but after awhile they get a light mold on the blooms, then I feel the need to pinch them off.

Answer
Janice,
I've never seen powdery mildew affect only the blooms of violets, but the leaves as well.  It is a healthy practice to pinch off blooms after a short while.  This actually gives the plant energy to produce more blooms.  However, if the mildew affects all of the blooms you wouldn't want to do that.  You might try using a 50/50 solution of milk and water.  Paint this onto the affected blooms or leaves.  This can halt mold.  Also, you can use Lysol spray.  I would advise actually spraying a little of this into a cup and applying it gently with a gentle brush or Q-tip.  Lysol is very cold and this could spot the leaves, and the strong cold spray could even damage the blooms.  If powdery mildew is your problem one of these is bound to work.  Good luck
