broken stem

Question
My "darling" cat accidentally broke off the entire top part of one of my violets.  It was one that I was planning to repot soon since the stem itself was partially out of the soil.  Other than that it was a fairly healthy plant.  Is it too late for my violet?  Anything I can do?  The stem itself is about 1/2 inch in diameter, and it is a clean break, so to speak.  Thanks in advance.

Answer
This is fairly easy to remedy.  Do you have about one inch of trunk where leaves have broken off?

Take a knife and scrape off the excess plant material left by broken leaves.  Scrape like you would scrape a carrot.

Insert the trunk into fresh damp vermiculite or your own potting soil.  Place a plastic bag over the pot and all for humidity.  Leave this for about two weeks.  The humidity will help make new roots and soon the plant will be "solid" again.
