Repairing a broken cactus

Question
I recently bought a cactus and the tallest column broke on the journey home.  Is there any way it can be reattached to the main body?  Thanks

Answer
Andrew,

No there is no way to reattach it but you can root the part that broke off and have another plant. Just let it lay on a table for several days until the cut or broken end is dry and kind of callused over. Then insert it in a pot of new cactus soil or you can insert it beside the one it broke off from. You need to plant it fairly deep so it will hold itself up. It will root in about 4 weeks.  Don't worry about the old base. You might want to cut it off even but at an angle. It will grow a whole new top within a few months. You will have a prettier plant than when you bought it. Good luck.
