Sago Palm - New Prawns Turning Brown

Question
I live in Hernando County, Florida. For the second straight year, my six year old sago palm has sent up new prawns that look healthy when they first open, but have now turned brown.  I would appreciate your comments.

Answer
Garry, it sounds like a nutritional deficiency; probably Manganese sulfate is needed, have you fertilized the sago? it should be fertilized 3 times a year with a well balance palm fertilizer, and sprayed once a month with a solution of Manganese sulfate, (teaspoon to a gallon of water), what is happening to yours is known as "frizzle top", also keep an eye out for white scale on the undersides of the fronds, if you notice them, spray them with a horticultural oil...Nick
