New growth on my sago palm is curly & twisted

Question
Last year my sago palm (10 to 12 years old) produced a female blossom and only 1 seed. When the blossom dried and fell downward, I removed it. New foliage started immediately, but it looked like a octopus!! These leaves are now full grown and look like a twisted, tangled mess. New leaves are beginning to show, and they too look like the tentacles of an octopus. What should I do? Remove the distorted leaves? Leave them alone? Fertilize? I would hate to lose this beautiful plant. It is about 10 feet in diameter, and approx. 5 feet tall. The stem portion is approx. 2 feet around, and 3 feet tall. HELP!!! and hopefully you have something I can try.

Answer
I have never heard of this situation.  Make sure there are no scale insects on the plant.  These bugs will be oval in shape and closely appressed to the stem and maybe under the leaf surface.  They will probably be brown in color and can be scraped off with your fingernail.  Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insecticide will cure this problem.  If this is not the case, please respond back and we will go in a different direction.  Which direction I am not sure, but let's eliminate each possible cause one at a time.  Awaiting your response.  Thanks.
