bouganvillia indoors?

Question
I have a bouganvillia which has lived on my New York City terrace all summer
and done well. I moved it inside two weeks ago as the weather is changing and
getting cold. How can I keep it alive through the winter? Should I prune it back
and keep it by a sunny window? Help please.
Velleda

Answer
Hi Velleda, yes! bring it in and make sure it gets ample sun; move it out during warm spells so the sun it gets isn't all diffused through a window. It will stress somewhat, this is normal, for it is a tropical plant and the conditions through the winter, indoors, is not the most desirable from its standpoint; keep it misted and only water it when it is dry, they don't like to be kept moist (soil). Expect a little leaf/bract drop, this will be a normal reaction to its different environment. Prune only the dead wood, unless it needs it to fit into the new location. good luck and follow up if you need. Nick
