how to take care of my plant

Question
I have a TROPICAL BROMELIAD PLANT how do i water it and how much. I have heard to put warm water on the top and not the bottom of the plant or the roots will rot.. Is that true

Answer
Hi Kasi, the top of the bromeliad is called the "cup" and you need to put half a cup of water into it and half into the soil, when the soil is dry, then and only then do you add another half cup to the soil (this will prevent root problems) ditto for the cup, half a cup when it is almost dry, if you see leaf curl, thats an indication it needs water, but don't wait to see that, because that is when its dying of thirst!  mist it frequently, they love a humid environment, and locating it in a semi shady area to begin with, eventually you will find the ideal location for it, the color of the leaves and flowers will tell you where its happiest. good luck with you new addition, and let me know of its progress:) Nick
