caffeinated corn plant

Question
Hi Nick - this is really a strange question.  A coworker and I both have corn plants - mine has been about the same size for many years, and shortly after he got his it took off like a rocket, blooming about every 6 months. He claimed all he did was talk to it, but he transferred out of my office about 3 months ago and confessed before leaving that he had been pouring his coffee cup dregs into his plant on a daily basis.  After he called me a few weeks ago to brag his plant waas blooming yet again, I started giving MY corn plant about a half cup of cold coffee every other day or so.  It now has grown three new leaves with several more curled up inside coming on within the last three weeks and looks great - more growth than I have seen in the last five years.  Am I causing damage here?  I have to admit, this seems to be working.  I have tried Miracle Grow in the past with no success, but coffee seems to be doing the trick!  Any thoughts?

Answer
Hi Kim, if your coffee is with cream, then you are adding a tad of calcium to the soil, the coffee itself will acidify the soil, other then that, there is no scientific benefit to what you and your colleague are doing; will it harm the plant? not in the amount you are putting on it; consensus, if it works, do it!..lol...Nick
