broken limbs on a banana tree

Question
I recently planted my banana trees back outside (I grew them in pots during winter months), and strong winds broke several limbs over and I'm afraid it's going to cut off the shoot and prevent new growth, what should I do? PS I cant bend it back off the shoot without breaking it off.

Answer
Hi Jenne, don't be concerned about the broken leaves, this is common with bananas in windy conditions, mine bend down all the time when its windy, just cut them off and let it be, the plant will produce plenty more, especially in the ensuing months of summer ahead; make sure you give your bananas plenty of water and fertilizer, to ensure fruit production down the road. Bananas are pretty resilient and it takes an awful lot to stop them from achieving growth. Nick
