bananna plant

Question
Hi, i do not want my banana plant to flower/fruit because i know it will die, can i stop this by cutting off the flower before it matures. I have only one stem the way it is planted in my patio so i don't want to lose it.Many Thanks Keith

Answer
Hi Keith, actually the only way to prolong your plant is to cut the trunk itself, it will then send out a new, smaller trunk from the center of the cut; Bananas are destined to continue growing until they can set fruit, so you cut it back, it grows back....and on and on....after you cut it back, let it develop back to the size you want, and then cut it again....thats the only way, unless it is set back by cold stress,,,,this will prolong it also.
