Can we save the bananas?

Question
Hello! Last night some critters finally reached their goal
and broke our banana tree w/about a half ripe stalk of yummy bananas. We are crushed - they were so good last year. Is there any point in trying to prop up the stalk now
or should I just cut(down) my losses? The 20ft tree now looks like an upside-down V with the middle quite broken and the stalk hanging near the ground. Thanks much, Sally

Answer
Hi Sally, don't fret, you really should have cut the stalk off while it was still green, but plumped out to its maximum, so because it is already beginning to ripen, cut it off and hang it inverted inside a cool dark area, garage, laundry room etc. and it will ripen up just fine for you, ...then take the mother plant down, cut it up and wait for your next stalk from the next plant:)...you need any more info on this, just let me know, growimg Bananas is my forte....:)Nick
