Here is the picture of our little tree!!

Question

picture of tropical tr
HI,

we just bought a nice tropical house plant. a small tree with leathery long
green leaves that grow directly off the trunk. not sure of the kind. but we've
just noticed white chalky spots on the trunk of the tree that seem to be
attacking the new growth on the tree (poor little tree!!). the leaves are starting
to shrivel and fall off. any advice on what we're dealing with here and what we
can do?? We would love your help!!

we'll add in a photo so hopefully you can give us some ideas.
Thanks,
Paula

Answer
Hi Paula, you have what looks like either scale or meal bugs (hard to tell with picture), spray them with common household Alcohol ..the Isopropyl type...this will eradicate them, you can also go out and buy horticultural oil or an insecticidal soap, but if you have the alcohol on hand, it will do the trick, follow up if needed.
