Our Ficus

Question
Dear Darlene,
My husband and I now have our second ficus tree in our apartment in
Brooklyn.  We had our first tree for 4 years.  Unfortunately this new tree
seems to be giving us a good deal of trouble and is not looking so good.  We
have had this 5' tree for just under a year now.   We just replanted it (because
it was losing a lot of leaves and had out grown its pot) three months ago into
a larger, I think, 16-18" pot.  Which we were told was the right size.  It is
right in front of the window from which my husband removed the curtain and
it gets very good light.  At first the tree seemed to take quite well to the re-
potting and was even growing a few new leaves, but within the past month
our ficus has lost so many leaves.  It is sad. My husband has seen a specialist
at the local plant store - controlled the watering and waits until the soil
seems dry before watering, moved the curtain, and we try to really leave the
plant alone so that she is not moved.  We do not really know what to do to
bring her back to health.  The leaves in front of the window are still green but
the others are either gone or pretty close to being gone.  She has just lost so
many leaves and I am afraid we are close to losing the plant.  We have tried
many different tips, but really love the plant and are open to any new ones
that you may have.  Thanks so much for your time.

All the Best,
Heather Greene

Answer
Heather,

To help you I need some information from you first. What direction does the window face? What size pot was it in before you repotted it? How often do you water it? How much water do you give it?  Let me know and I will give you my best advice.

Darlene
