Hello:
I am in Santa Monica and have two very large clumps of mature (30'high) of Strelitzia nicolai. They have been inside a stucco planter which is 20' long and 4'wide by 2' high.. Is there a point when we should consider moving them or dividing them. Can they be too root bound or break through the stucco?

AnswerHi Darlene, they could in fact eventually break through the stucco, dividing them could be chancy also though ; I would remove the smaller ones for now, to allow the larger ones to expand their roots. The larger ones will probably not survive a transplant attempt however, so for now, I would just give them more space by taking out the smaller ones. Nick
