Foxtail Palms & Jathropa

Question
I had 2 Foxtail Palms planted April 08 & established Jathropa replanted. This
winter Tampa, FL had at least 3 days of really cold temperatures (freezing). Now
April09 & I have seen green on all my plants except Jathropa & Foxtails. No
green at all. Do I need to do anything to them, how long to wait until decide they
won't come back? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Loretta, you should already see new growth if they are still viable, I fear that the Foxtail may be gone, you can check it by tugging on the emerging spear in the center, it should hold tight, if it pulls out, then the Palm is dead; The Jathropha can be checked by scraping the bark near the bottom, it should show green, if not, it too is gone, if it shows green (the Cambium layer) then give it more time to show growth.
