foxtail palms roots

Question
Are foxtail palms likely to raise pavers?  There are 2  mature palms  foxtails  at about 2 - 3 metres from the paving then at 4 - 5 metres there is another group of foxtails plus one other which I don't recognise. Partner wants to chop them all down but I think it's just the other unknown which is the problem. What do you think?
Thank you

Answer
Hi Cynthia, I live in Florida, and we have Foxtails all over, and not only do they not pose a threat to lifting pavers, but even the bigger Royals are planted right up against streets and sidewalks, and pose no threat whatsoever.  Palm roots tend to grow downward and not outward, like trees, hence the tendency to put them even close to structures.
