Palm plant problems

Question
I have a palm that is over a year old just lately the leaves and stalks in the slit leaves turned shiny like it was sprayed with somethinga and tiny spots of fuzz up the veins and now there are tiny spots up and down the leaves

Answer
Hi Marion, sounds like your Palm is being accosted by spider mites or scale insects; I am assuming it is a house palm in a container (if not let me know..)so, get some common household Isopropyl Alcohol and put it in a spray container and spray the areas effected, let it sit overnight and then take the palm outside and wash it down with your hose the next morning. The shiny condition is caused by the secretions given off by the feeding insects, it is a sticky , honeydew type residue and the fuzz and spots are the actual insects feeding on your Palm. You can use Insecticidal soap or Horticultural Oil also is you have it on hand, but the alcohol will accomplish the same. Nick
