Palm plant

Question
QUESTION: I have a Palm plant and for the last 2 years I have had the leaves turn brown on one branch now i have 4 of the five branches where the leaves have turned brown. When i had just the one branch with this problem I cut the branch off. During the winter into the beginning of the summer the plant was doing fine. Now the problem is on the 4 of the five branches. What is happening and is there anything I can do to help this plant out?

ANSWER: Hi Bill, what kind of palm?  Are you watering too much? Is it in a Pot or in the ground?  I need help before I can help you.:)  kathy

QUESTION: I don't know what type it is. I can tell you that it is in a pot. it is a 4" round ball that the branches grow out from the ball. It looks like for the first time it is trying to grow something from the center of the ball which is a first since we had thi palm. The ball is about 3 to 4 inches high. The leaves are long and thin. You stated that we may be watering it too much. I have to say we do water it often and I think you are correct. How much water does it need. Should the soil be dry and if so how dry?

Answer
Hi Bill, some palms like water other do not, but in a container, if you have a dish under it so you do not get your floor wet, you must empty the water out after 15 minutes or you can rot your plant.
Get yourself a little water meter and it will tell you when you need water.  Depending where you live and if its in the house or outside makes a difference. Outside more often if in the sun and in the house maybe once a week if it is dry.  kathy
