PROPOGATE ROBELLINI PALMS

Question
I HAVE A FEW ROBELLINI'S AND I WOULD LIKE TO START MORE FROM SEEDS FROM THE TREES. I AM IN ZONE 10 SOUTH FLORIDA.PLEASE BE SPECIFIC I AM A BEGINNER.

Answer
Hi Jim, propagating Palms from seeds is a process that begins with waiting for the seeds to separate from the pod naturally, this is when they ready; soak the viable seeds in a cup of water, with about 4 or 5 drops of bleach in it for about 2 days. Take the seeds (quite a few, because they won't all germinate..) and put them "on" a light soil mix, in a small container slightly pressed in and place a moist paper towel over them, then cover the container with a baggy to keep the environment inside the container damp. Place the container outside in a warm area where it will remain in the upper 70's or better, and check the paper towel periodically to make sure it is still damp; also check the seeds to make sure no mildew has set in, otherwise you will have to clean them of it. The seeds (some of them) should germinate in about a month or longer, in which time you can transplant them to a permanent container. Nick
