OVERWINTERING DATURA PLANTS

Question
QUESTION: I just bought two white and two yellow datura plants.  I live in a s.w.suburb of Chicago.  How can I overwinter them?

I also bought a trumpet angel plant -  same question.

ANSWER: Hi Sandra, you would have to cut them back and pot them up; do so in a container big enough to hold their root system, then bring them indoors for the Winter; they are tropical by nature, and do not go dormant, so you really can't leave them to their own devices in your Chicago Winter. QUESTION: How severley should I cut them back?  Should I keep them in a sunny window and how often should I water them?

Answer
Cut them back to about half of their present size, leaving enough leaves to keep them viable, yet small enough to handle and put in a container; and yes, put them near a window where they will get ample light. Water them when the soil begins to dry out. Nick
