areca palms

Question
we have ARECA palms bordering one side of the yard and we wanted to do the same on the other. i was wondering if we can somehow use the branches/seeds of our current palms to grow new ones? there are two primary reasons i want to attempt to do it myself:  a)i havent found any local nurseries that carry areca palms - i live in southwest fl. b)im not sure how expensive these palms are but we have a big yard and it might get costly to have to buy all of them. if there are any green thumbs out there, please help!

Answer
Hi Julia, the way to propagate Arecas are by separation of the palm itself, segmenting the actual palm by root sections; Home Depot always have Arecas for reasonable prices too! They are about $10.00 for a 4 footer, which  makes them the cheapest Palm you can buy. The nice thing is they are very hardy also, and need very little care. They should be planted about 4 feet apart, and allowed to grow into each other as they mature. Nick
