Palm tree sick

Question
Hello,
We recently bought a house with 2 royal palms, they are about 8 feet, they seemed fine until about 4 months ago when one of them, the leaves started drying up and began to fall, now is just the trunk no new leaves the top is all dried, but the bottom and the trunk seem healthy and green.
Is the palm sick?
Any suggestions I could do to save the tree?

Thank you

Answer
It is an indication of failure due to a number of possible reasons, from cold stress to insect infestation or disease; the bottom line is , the shedding of fronds is never normal unless it is the bottom one, and it is completely brown. The fact that the bottom is still green doesn't really mean anything, it is the top where new life will emerge, in the form of a new frond that looks like a spear emerging. The only thing you can do now is hope that a new frond does emerge, if nothing happens in the coming Months except for further browning, then I am afraid the Palm has succumbed.
