pruning tree

Question
We have a weeping cherry about 12 years old that has never been pruned, looks reasonably awful, and this past spring had minimal flowers.  What can we to to improve its appearance and bloom?

Answer
Carol,

You probably should prune this tree.  Weeping cherries are generally grafted so you have to be careful because you do not want to remove the graft.  I would cut the branches back about halfway during the late winter so you can see the architecture of the tree.

Good luck

Gary
