Painting the trunks of living trees

Question
I recently saw an article about painting the trunks and branches of camillia trees blue.  I bought some outdoor latex paint and painted them.  They look great, actually quite amazing.  Now I want to paint the trunk and lower branches of my pomegranite tree yellow.  I  want to make sure that painting the trucks and branches of the trees will not kill them.  I actually suspect that they will help keep mites and fungusses off the tree. Can you advise or inform me?

Answer
Ted,

Go get a paint stripper.  I believe the author of the article was irresponsible for recommending such a practice.

Never paint a cut limb or the trunk of a healthy tree.  The paints will actually seal in disease agents and cause problems down the road.  The bark is a living part of the tree.

Good luck

Gary
