QuestionIn Luling, LA, (approx.15 miles west of New Orleans, zone 9), we'd like to plant about 4 of these trees close to an in-ground pool. What is the root system like, and do you think they will cause soil subsidence within 5ft of pool? Thanks for any help.
AnswerThe root system will spread about 10-15 feet from the trunk when they are grown. So I would not recommend that you plant these within 5 feet of the pool since you may have problems with the roots getting into the side of the pool (assuming it is a vinyl pool). If it is a cement pool you might get away with them being so close.
