How old is our oak tree

We just moved into a house in Austin, TX and there is a huge oak tree in the back yard. It is atleast 3 feet in diameter at the base, how can I tell how old it is?

I would ask one of the Foresters for the Texas state forestry agency to come take a look. They have instruments taht can be used to bore the tree and determine the age. A tree that large will be hard to bore completely but they should be able to give you a close guess. The Urban forester in Austin is:
