Red Maple leaves drooping after planting.

Question
I have recently planted 2 red maples. After 2 days the leaves started to droop. Is this normal? Have I done something wrong? They are from a nursery and are about 6ft tall and appear healthy.

Answer
It is normal for tree that are planted to under go stress from the planting. Do not over water, mulch around the tree with not more then 3 inches of mulch and water about once a week with 1 icnh of water--put a pan under the tree when watering and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop.
Not sure how you planted the tree --the best way is to dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and fill with good top soil and mulch.
The tree could have been stressed before you planted it--long wait from buying to planting and ti dried out somewhat. I expect too much wtaer so back off until the soil undeer the tree is dry down to an inch deep. IF it dies take it back to the nursery for a replacement most nurseries quarrentee their trees.
