dogwood tree stump

Question
tree was cut down and the stump that was left is seeping water out of the top of the stump and has been doing this for several weeks  thanks ronda

Answer
This is normal for a tree cut in the early spring. The root system is still alive and the roots in the spring pump water that contains food and minerals to the leaf buds so they will have energy to leaf out. When some tree species are cut in the early spring they will continue seeping water for several weeks. If the water is smelling you can put lime on the stump and this will cut the acid somewhat. It is not a problem it is part of the dying and rotting process of the tree stump.
