should I remove tree

Question
I have a 2 year old weeping willow tree.  The main trunk appears dead however many small branches have sprouted from the base of the trunk.  Should I remove the tree based on the fact that the main trunk is dead?  Will it somehow revive?

Answer
Sounds like something has killed the main leader and the root system is sprouting a new plant. You will see many sprouts coming from the root system. I would cut the dead wood out and let the sprouts grow for a while. When they get about 18-24 inches tall select the tallest couple of sprouts and cut the rest. The new tree will be one of these ones you left--as one show dominance (grows larger then the other) you can prune off the others and let the new leader be the new tree. The root system seems to be ok and as such will grow a new leader quite fast.
